First Edition Nathalia Crane Poetry Collection—“Swear by the Night”

Nathalia Crane was initially called “The Child Prodigy of Brooklyn.” She published her first collection of poetry in 1924, at the age of 10. The present collection, “Swear by the Night,” was published by Random House in 1936, when the poet was 22 years old. This hardcover first edition shows fraying and grime on the front and back covers. The spine is especially worn. There is staining on the inner front and back covers and on the first few and last few pages. The outside edges of the pages show grime. There are neither rips nor tears on the pages. This is in surprisingly good condition for a book that is nearly 90 years old. 9-1/8” x 6-1/8” x 3/8”. 59 pages.
